On August 21, EFGAMP is pleased to organize a panel discussion at the gamescom congress on the topic of
Collecting and Preserving Gaming Cultural Heritage: Status Quo and Challenges
Computer games have developed into a cultural practice that leverages the potential of digital technologies to develop cultural traditions further like no other.
Against this backdrop, the question of how this part of our cultural heritage can be preserved and kept accessible is increasingly coming into focus. Six-figure visitor numbers at games museums and a growing number of retrogaming shows and re-releases of classics demonstrate the great interest of the public.
The panel discussion will highlight the various aspects of the associated social and practical challenges. The participants will present best practice projects from the cultural and economic sectors as well as from civil society that demonstrate the possibilities for collecting, preserving, and keeping computer game culture accessible.
The speakers are:
- Sandra M. Winterberg
CEO ICS Internationale Computerspielesammlung gGmbH - Jun.-Prof. Dr. Melanie Fritsch
Media and Cultural Studies at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf - Piotr Gnyp
Senior PR GOG - Natalia Kovalainen
Chief ArchivistEmbracer Games Archive - Marco Accordi Rickards
Director GAMM Game Museum Rome - The panel is moderated by Andreas Lange
COO EFGAMP e.V.
