Československý herní archiv (Czechoslovak Game Archive) strives to create a complex collection of physical and digital ephemera mainly focused on local game history, both of development, distribution and community.
The collection of the archive consists of a large amount of locally developed hardware, peripherals, games and software, as well as magazines and literature, photographs, webpage archives and other born-digital data. Aside from archiving objects, Československý herní archiv also has extensive knowledge on digitization of various types of physical media. The stories of local gaming history are also being captured in oral history interviews.
Československý herní archiv is an initiative of the non-profit Herní historie, z.s., which was founded in 2017. But the activity of its members started in 2015 with the project RetroHerna (RetroArcade), a touring exhibition of playable games. This sister project is still active and appeared at close to 100 events throughout Czechia and Slovakia.
