History of Dutch games industry canonized

Netherlands - Beeld en Geluid - Dutch game development history

Netherlands has small but active and long running history with games development. The local EFGAMP member organization Beeld en Geluid (Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision) has published an interactive canon of the Dutch game development history.

The timeline begins from 1980 and continues up to the current day presenting the commercial games produced and released in the Netherlands.

The canon is available only in Dutch language but the timeline is easy to use and understand. It provides an excellent way to learn more about the game development history of the Netherlands and is a good window into the local peculiarities and even surprises. Did you know the Epic Megagames’ hit Jazz Jackrabbit (1994, DOS) is actually from a Dutch developer? Now you know!
