The Computerspielemuseum opened in 1997 as the world’s first museum for computer games. Now it has itself become a historical object.
In the recently published book ‘How the games came to the museum. The history of the world’s first computer games museum‘ the two founders Klaus Spieler and Andreas Lange describe what prompted them to take the risk of founding the museum and how they managed to overcome many obstacles to develop the museum into a successful and recognized cultural heritage institution. They also give a good and authentic impression of how the image of computer games has developed in recent decades from a rather critically eyed pastime, especially for minors, to a cultural asset.
The book has been published in German by Verlag Werner Hülsbusch and can be ordered here.
